I'm So Happy for You! - Writing Prompt

Help another person celebrate a special occasion. Write a story about someone you know, or a fictional character, who just did something great.  Perhaps she won a prize in the science fair. Maybe he earned a spot on the football team.  Did your sister or brother finally get an "A" in math after struggling to understand all the Xs and Ys or word problems?

Think about how to make this story interesting. Add some conflict. Are you really happy or is there a bit of envy keeping you from showing your true feelings? How do you handle the mix of emotions? Does your friend know you feel that way?

How can show what's going on in someones head? Make it funny or dramatic but have a good time and, if you feel like, share your story here for others to enjoy.

Switching Places - Writing Prompt

What if J.K. Rowling wrote her famous series with Hermione as the main character? How does the story change if  she 's the one with the lightening bolt scar on her forehead? What would Harry be doing?

Write a story, based on Harry Potter, Cinderella, or any other book you choose where you switch the roles of the main characters.
What if, in Cinderella, it was set in the future on another planet? How would Prince Charming find his true love when she could be anywhere in the universe????

Have fun!

Homonym Challenge - Writing Prompt

Storee Wryter and her cat, Critique, like to have fun with words. This week Storee is  using homonyms as often as she can. Homonyms are words that sound alike but have different meanings. She is happy to tell you that this morning she ate eight pancakes for breakfast.

She invites you to have  homonym fun too and write a story using at least two pair of homonyms.

Here is a list of choices to get you started. If you come up with others on your own, give yourself extra credit and let me know which words you picked.

Springtime! - Writing Prompt

I've been thinking about how tricky the English language can be.  Imagine you are a newcomer to America and you are trying to learn the meaning of a lot of new words, one of them being the word spring. You might become a bit confused when you hear people speaking about spring.

One person might say, I'm so glad Spring is finally here and the flowers are beginning to bloom.

Another might be overheard saying on a hike, "I'm very thirsty. I can hardly wait until we reach the spring so I can get a drink of cool water.

What would he or she think upon hearing someone describe another person by saying she always has a spring in her step?

What helps you jump high on your pogo stick? A spring, of course!

Write a story about spring depicting any of it's meanings and if you think of any more, post them here. I look forward to hearing from you. Happy writing. I'm off for a lunch date with my friend. If I'm lucky she will spring for the check.

Spring Forward - Writing Prompt

Last Sunday we moved our clocks forward one hour giving us an extra hour of daylight each day. This is called Daylight Saving Time. Of course we know there are still only 24 hours in a day but, what if you could add an hour to your day whenever you needed it. What would you do with that time? Would you be able to save the hours in a time bank and spend them when wanted to stay up late or take a day off from school?

Write a story about time and how spend it or save it. Storee would like a few more minutes each day to spend on her writing. ADDIE might like to play outside longer on a nice day, and Critique, well she wouldn't mind a longer nap now and then.  Have fun and if you feel like sharing you are always welcome to post your story here.
